Before you dig: items marked [CONFIRM] are Bearcat field practice, not yet checked against the Cimarron assembly sheet packed with this kit. Where the two differ, the Cimarron sheet wins. Questions: call or text 817-803-1445, or book the $149 layout check and we walk the site with you on video.
1. Site needs
Level area at least 75 ft by 18 ft
Concrete footings or sleeves at each upright (pattern in the layout guide)
Clearance of 14 ft overhead
2. Anchor pattern
8 pairs of uprights (16 uprights total), one pair every 10 ft along the 70 ft length, 14 ft apart across the width. [CONFIRM count and spacing against the commercial stand-alone frame sheet]
String the two long lines, mark every upright, and square the rectangle by diagonals. On a facility slab, snap chalk lines instead of string.
Roof rails sit at 12 ft. The 14 ft width means the roof rail spans unsupported across the cage; do not shorten the spec cross members or add a center post.
Plan the L-screen and the backstop positions now: backstop hangs inside the net behind the plate, L-screen stands at the pitcher end. Both need the full 14 ft width to move around in.
3. Footing depth and set
Concrete footings at every upright: 12 in diameter by 36 in deep, 42 in in frost country. The kit ships either ground sleeves or base-plate uprights depending on how Cimarron packs the bundle. [CONFIRM which ships with BBP7 and BBP8]
Ground sleeves: set in wet concrete, plumb in two directions, brace until cured. Base plates: pour the footing with a smooth top, let it cure, then drill and set four wedge anchors per plate. [CONFIRM anchor size]
Indoor on an existing slab: base-plate uprights with 1/2 in wedge anchors into 4 in or thicker slab. Thinner slab or post-tension slab: stop and call us before you drill.
Cure 7 days before full net tension on a daily-use commercial cage.
4. Hang the net in this order
Stand the frame fully assembled, plumb, and bolted before the net comes out. Torque every bolt once the roof rails are in and the diagonals match.
Unroll the net inside the frame, ceiling on top, long axis along the cage. Flag the four ceiling corners. This net is heavy; three people on the lift.
Clip the four ceiling corners to the corners of the frame. Clip along both roof rails every 12 to 18 in, middle out toward each end. A #45 net needs tighter clip spacing than a #24. [CONFIRM clip spacing]
Clip the end roof rails. Drop the walls and tie them to the uprights every 18 in top to bottom.
Hang the 5x7 backstop inside the net behind the plate from the roof rail, then assemble the L-screen frame and net at the pitcher end. Lay the home plate mat last.
5. Tension sequence
Roof first: pull the ceiling flat corner to corner, center the net under the frame, then work the clips until the ceiling has no bag between rails.
Walls second, alternating sides so the frame stays plumb. A 14 ft roof span shows any pull: sight down the roof rails after each side.
Floor last with 12 in of puddle on the ground on a commercial net. The extra puddle is what keeps a #45 net from throwing balls back and from wearing at the bottom tie points.
Daily-use cages: re-tension at one week, one month, then every season. Rotate the net end for end once a year so the plate end does not wear out first.
6. Tools
Auger
Level
Wrench set
Ladder
Rubber mallet
Tape measure (100 ft) and string line with stakes
Concrete: about 2 bags (80 lb) per footing [CONFIRM per footing size]
Tape or flags to mark the net corners
7. Safety
Call 811 before you dig. It is free and it is the law in every state.
Overhead: nothing closer than 10 ft to a power line, including the ladder.
Never tension a net or a cable before the concrete has cured.
Two people on every ladder lift of net or rail. Three on a commercial net.
