The hitting area needs a consistent, dense surface that gives realistic footing through the swing and does not shift or mat down under repeated impact in the same spot. We typically spec a shorter pile height with a firm backing for the hitting strip and swing platform, the same category of product we use for home gym flooring, and can extend a slightly softer residential-look turf around the perimeter of the room for the parts that are just floor.
How much ceiling height do I need for a golf simulator room? +
A commonly cited planning figure is 9 to 10 feet of clear ceiling height to accommodate a full swing with a driver. That is a guideline, not a guarantee: actual clearance depends on your height, your swing plane, and the club you are hitting, and taller golfers or a steep upright swing may want more. Can this go in an existing garage or bonus room? +
Yes, that is the most common setup we see. Golf simulator turf is typically glued down directly over an existing concrete slab, garage floor, or bonus-room subfloor. There is no excavation and no base rock, since you are working indoors over a surface that already exists. It is a similar process to how we install turf for a home gym: clean and prep the slab, dry-lay the turf, then glue it down for a permanent, non-shifting surface.
