Backyard bocce courts across DFW
Backyard bocce ball court installation, DFW.
A bocce court is not a lawn with lines painted on it. It needs a dead-flat base and a tight, consistent-roll surface built for the game. Bearcat specs and builds both, sized to fit your actual backyard.

A court is a different build than a lawn.
A shaggier, textured residential lawn turf is built to look like grass and to hide seams. Roll a bocce ball across it and it wanders, catches on the pile, and slows unevenly. A real court needs the opposite: a low, tight, consistent pile so the ball tracks true and predictably from one end of the court to the other.
Bearcat does not keep a single, fixed bocce product sitting on the shelf. We spec the right surface for each court individually, sourced from our turf suppliers for the application, because a court a family plays on twice a week deserves a surface chosen for that use rather than whatever lawn turf happened to be in the yard already.
The base matters just as much as the surface. Bocce is extremely sensitive to any dip, crown, or soft spot underneath, more so than a lawn ever is. We treat court base prep the way we treat our putting green installs: compacted in lifts, laser-graded, and checked against a level tolerance rather than a simple drainage slope.
What Bearcat brings to your bocce court.
Court-specific turf, not lawn turf
We spec a shorter, denser pile suited to a true, consistent ball roll, sourced from our suppliers for the specific court rather than installed off a standard residential product line.
Dead-flat, laser-graded base
Bocce is unforgiving of dips and crowns. We compact and laser-grade the base to a level tolerance, the same standard we hold for our putting green installs.
Real boundary construction
Flush paver edge or a raised timber frame, built to contain the ball and finish the court cleanly against the rest of the yard.
Sized to your actual lot
Regulation is 91 by 13 feet. Most backyard courts run smaller. We lay out the length that fits your yard before anything is priced.

Bocce court turf questions, answered.
What makes bocce court turf different from regular lawn turf? +
A residential lawn product is built to look like grass, with a taller, textured pile that hides seams and photographs well. That same pile would make a bocce ball roll unevenly and slow unpredictably. A court needs a shorter, denser, more consistent pile so the ball tracks true from one end to the other. Bearcat does not carry a single fixed bocce SKU in our standard product line. We spec the surface for the court on a per-project basis, sourcing a shorter, denser pile suited to consistent ball roll from our turf suppliers rather than installing a standard lawn product and calling it a court.
How flat does a bocce court actually need to be? +
Flatter than almost anything else we build, including a lawn. A residential yard can tolerate a gentle grade for drainage without anyone noticing underfoot. A bocce court cannot. Any dip, crown, or soft spot in the base telegraphs straight through the turf and throws the roll off, and a serious player will find it immediately. We treat the base prep the same way we do for our putting green installs: compact in lifts, laser-grade the surface, and check it against a level tolerance before turf ever goes down, not just a drainage slope like a typical lawn.
What size bocce court fits a typical DFW backyard? +
Regulation Italian bocce courts are commonly cited at 91 feet long by 13 feet wide, which is more court than most residential lots can dedicate to a single feature. Backyard and recreational courts are usually built smaller, often 60 feet or less in length, sized to fit the available yard while still playing true. The right footprint depends on your lot, so we walk the yard with you and lay out a court length that actually works before anything is priced.
Does Bearcat build the court boundary and edging, not just the turf? +
Yes. A bocce court needs a real boundary to contain the ball and to give the court a finished edge, whether that is a flush paver border, a raised timber frame, or another edge treatment that fits the rest of your yard. We build that boundary as part of the install, coordinated with the base prep and drainage, the same way we handle edge treatment on every turf project.
