A backyard built for five boys and a dad who lives and breathes sports

This Aledo build is for a family of seven — five boys, all athletes, with a dad who lives and breathes sports from his past life. The brief from him: somewhere he could train his sons at home without a drive. The brief from mom: somewhere all five boys could play, host birthday parties, and turn the house into the neighborhood hangout in a sports-crazed town.

What we built is one yard that does both. 5,000 SF of sport-grade artificial turf, a custom-stitched logo picked by mom symbolizing her five sons, and a surface specced to take a real training schedule for the next 15 years.

What Bearcat installed

  • 5,000 SF of TurfHub All Pro USA in green — commercial-grade sport turf, 1.25” pile, classic-spine yarn, 30+ in/hr drainage. Specced for high-traffic athletic use, antimicrobial yarn, charge-guard anti-static, 15-year manufacturer warranty.
  • TurfHub All Pro USA in white for the field-line striping — permanent, brushed-in, never has to be re-painted.
  • Silica and crumb rubber infill to manufacturer spec — the right combination for sport-grade footing under cleats and the kind of impact a football training schedule actually generates.
  • Custom-stitched logo — mom picked the design, symbolizing her five sons. Stitched in panel-by-panel during install. Center-of-field, the photo every weekend birthday party gets taken in front of.
  • Engineered sub-base + drainage for the way Aledo clay actually drains, sized for repeat-traffic use, not weekend-warrior wear.

Built for the way the family actually uses it

This field works at three different speeds:

  • Hosting practices at home. Dad runs his own training sessions on the field. Position-specific drills, conditioning, route trees, footwork — anything he wants to install in his sons before practice that day at school.
  • Running a training business out of your home. A field this size and spec is the foundation for a side business or full-time training operation. Athletes, neighborhood kids, and small group sessions all fit.
  • Backyard games, birthday parties, and the neighborhood hang. Five boys means a full pickup game without inviting anyone over — but the yard is also the one all the neighborhood kids end up at. Birthday parties, after-school football, summer hose-and-turf chaos. The field is built to take it.

Why TurfHub All Pro USA

Sport-grade installs have a different baseline than residential turf. We chose All Pro USA on this build for three specific reasons:

  • Commercial-spec face weight (65 oz). Holds up to repeat-traffic athletic use without matting out at year three.
  • Drainage rated to 30+ inches per hour. The field is playable within hours of even heavy North Texas storms — matters when dad has a training session scheduled and there’s a forecast.
  • CoolFlo + anti-static yarn. Surface temperatures stay manageable in July. Anti-static keeps cleats and clothes from picking up the kind of charge that residential turf produces.

Pair that with silica + crumb rubber infill at the manufacturer spec and you get a surface that performs the way a real training field is supposed to perform — not a backyard lawn that happens to be green year-round.

Why a backyard sports field makes sense for an athletic Aledo family

Specifically for the families considering this kind of build:

  • Reps without a drive. Aledo schools are great, but a home surface means daily reps in the gap between school practices. Compounds fast over a player’s career — especially with multiple kids overlapping age groups.
  • Sport-grade durability. Residential turf doesn’t survive a real training schedule with five athletes on it. Sport-spec turf does. Real difference between an install that looks new at year ten and one that needs to be torn out at year five.
  • Year-round playable. No Texas-summer brown-out, no winter mud. The field is the same surface in February as it is in August.
  • Multi-purpose without compromise. Football practice surface, kids’ run-around lawn, birthday party venue, dog area, neighborhood hang, photo backdrop. The same yard does all of it.
  • Resale + lifestyle. Aledo backyards with sport-grade surfaces stand out on listing photos. The buyer pool for a house like this is exactly the buyer for this kind of feature.

The 10 days on-site

Start to finish, this build was a ten-day project:

  1. Day 1 — demo the existing yard, define the field footprint
  2. Day 2 — sub-base prep and engineered drainage layer
  3. Day 3-4 — aggregate base in lifts, compacted to spec, laser-graded
  4. Day 5-6 — main green turf installed, seamed, glued
  5. Day 7 — white-line striping cut, fitted, and seamed
  6. Day 8 — custom logo panels installed by hand
  7. Day 9 — silica and crumb rubber infill, brushed in
  8. Day 10 — final inspection, edge work, and walkthrough with the family

A surface designed to last a player’s entire youth-through-college career, built in two weeks.
