Why we're building in Georgetown.

Georgetown has spent much of the last decade as one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, and the growth shows no sign of slowing. Wolf Ranch alone is one of the largest master-planned communities in the Austin metro, with its own town center and miles of trail along the San Gabriel River. Sun City Texas has grown into a 55-plus community of more than 16,000 residents. Teravista, Berry Creek, and Serenada round out a city where new construction and turf-hungry yards are the rule, not the exception.

We're not pretending to be a local Georgetown shop. Bearcat Turf & Outdoors is based in Aledo, in the Fort Worth area, and we're extending our service area south rather than opening a second office. What that means in practice: the same crew, the same spec, and the same warranty you'd get on a Parker County install, scheduled into a dedicated Williamson County trip.

In July 2026 we completed a full backyard renovation for a Georgetown family: turf where a mature live oak canopy had killed the grass, 170 feet of curved Austin chopped limestone edging, cedar mulch beds around the tree roots, and river rock side yards. Taylor Clay and the Georgetown build.

Most Georgetown neighborhoods east of I-35, including Wolf Ranch, Teravista, and Sun City, are built on Taylor Clay and Austin Chalk. Taylor Clay is among the most expansive soils in North America: it can swell 10 to 15 percent in volume when saturated and shrink hard during a dry Texas summer. That is a more aggressive swing than the black gumbo clay we deal with in Parker County, and it means the base underneath a turf install matters even more here.

We build the same way we do in DFW: compacted crushed stone or decomposed granite in lifts, laser-graded to a 1.5 to 2 percent slope, with French drain integration where the lot topography channels water toward the turf. West of I-35, the ground transitions into Edwards Plateau limestone and rockier Hill Country terrain, which changes the excavation plan but not the standard. How scheduling works for a Georgetown project.

Because we're traveling from Fort Worth, Williamson County installs get scheduled into focused project weeks instead of being worked into the daily DFW rotation. That means a slightly longer lead time to get on the calendar than a Parker County customer would see, but it also means a full crew and full trailer on-site for the whole job, not a rushed single-day visit.
