What goes under the turf is the job.

Much of the Dallas area sits on expansive clay, so the base matters more than the turf. In Allen the cage sits on a crushed recycled-concrete sub-base capped with a 15-year weed barrier, so water moves through the base instead of pooling under the net. We never lay turf straight over soil or grass: we remove the organic layer and build the base first, because turf over soil settles unevenly and lifts within a season or two.

If you already have a slab, turf goes straight over it. For the spec we use (pile height, face weight, fiber, backing) and the full install method, see our batting cage turf guide.

Dallas batting cage FAQ

Questions we hear from Dallas-area families.

Do you install batting cage turf in Dallas?

Yes. We are based in Aledo and cover the full DFW metroplex. Dallas, Frisco, McKinney, Plano, and the surrounding Collin and Denton county jobs are quoted and scheduled, and you should expect a crew a day or two longer out than our core Tarrant County footprint. Travel is included in the quote with no separate charge for most DFW locations.

How much does batting cage turf cost in the Dallas area?

The same as the rest of DFW. Turf only over an existing slab runs $4,000 to $7,500, a backyard cage with base work included runs $5,500 to $12,000, and full backyard cage packages start at $5,999. We quote free, within 24 hours of a site visit.

Can turf go straight over my concrete?

Yes, and it is the easiest install: clean, prime, glue, cut, and seam. A single-cage install over concrete typically finishes in a day. Over dirt or grass we always remove the organic layer and build a proper base first, because turf laid over soil settles and lifts.

Can a batting cage go inside a barn?

Yes. In Argyle we rigged a 15 x 30 ft cage from the existing rafters of a working barn, with Performance Pro turf on the floor. There are no footings and no frame uprights, and the cage moves to the side when the barn is needed for something else.

Will my HOA allow a backyard batting cage?

It depends on your HOA, so check the rules and submit plans before you commit. In Allen, we used freestanding steel posts set 3 ft deep, which read as a permanent structure to a plan reviewer.
