Commercial Athletic Fields
Bearcat Turf is the HUB Certified commercial athletic fields installation company for the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. ASTM F1936 sport turf, GMAX-tested infill, ISD bid-ready, multi-sport layouts for schools, clubs, parks, and private facilities.
Commercial athletic fields installation across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Bearcat Turf works directly with ISDs, charter schools, club programs, parks departments, private training facilities, and developer/owner teams on full sport-field installations.
Why ISDs and athletic directors hire Bearcat for commercial field work
Natural-grass sport fields in North Texas realistically support 8-12 hours of play per week before the surface degrades. Between August heat, spring storms that shut a field down for 72 hours, and the shrink-swell cycle in our clay soil, a well-built grass field still costs $80,000-$150,000 a year to maintain and still can't match the playing hours of turf. A properly engineered turf field supports 40+ hours of play weekly, year-round, and pays back its capital cost in rentals and maintenance savings inside of five years.
- HUB Certified by the State of Texas. Eligible for ISD bid programs, City of Fort Worth procurement, TxDOT-adjacent contracts, and qualifying private contracts that prefer or require HUB participation.
- ASTM F1936 spec turf. The athletic-field standard for synthetic turf — UV-stabilized polyethylene, slit-film or monofilament fiber, seam-tested to ASTM F1936.
- GMAX-tested impact attenuation per ASTM F355. Engineered infill blend (silica + crumb rubber, or alternative TPE/cork blends) installed to GMAX < 165 at install and validated to maintain spec through year 8.
- Drainage rate exceeds 30 in/hr per ASTM F1551. Perforated PVC drain network, geotextile separator, 4-6" engineered aggregate base in two compacted lifts at 95% Standard Proctor.
- BBB Accredited · fully insured. COIs, payment bonds, and submittals available before mobilization.
- Coordinated with district schedules. Summer install windows, after-hours coordination, sequenced inside the GC's pull-plan when working a new-construction athletic complex.

How a Bearcat commercial athletic field reads, layer by layer
- Sub-grade preparation. Excavate native soil to depth required by the field spec. DFW expansive clay sometimes requires lime or cement-treated stabilization beneath the engineered base.
- Geotextile separator. Non-woven needle-punched fabric above sub-grade and below aggregate. Prevents silt migration and fines pumping.
- Engineered aggregate base. 4-6 inches of crushed stone (1" → 3/8" graded for sport applications). Two-lift install, compacted to 95% Standard Proctor per layer, verified.
- Perforated drain network. PVC drain rock embedded in a laser-graded slope to 1-2%. Drainage rate exceeds 30 in/hr per ASTM F1551.
- Shock pad (where spec calls for it). Closed-cell foam underlay, sized to the GMAX or IPEMA fall-height target.
- ASTM F1936 sport turf. Slit-film or monofilament polyethylene fiber. Seamed with reinforced tape and adhesive, tested per F1936.
- GMAX-tested performance infill. Silica + crumb rubber blend (or TPE / cork alternative) brushed to spec application rate.
Full layer-by-layer cross-section is on the sport-field specifications page. The ASTM standards reference covers F1936, F355, F1292, F1551, and F1487.
