No more mud. No more smell. Pet-rated turf with high-flow drainage and antimicrobial zeolite infill — built for multi-dog households and Texas summers. Safe for paws, tough enough for the biggest breeds. A typical DFW backyard dog zone runs $4,500-$6,000 fully installed; full-yard pet conversions run higher.

What makes pet turf different

Standard landscape turf on a pet install is the single most common mistake in the DFW market. Three things separate pet-rated turf from residential turf:

  • Shorter, denser pile fiber. 1.25-1.75 inches with a high stitch rate. Longer fiber holds urine; shorter pile sheds it faster and is easier to rinse clean.
  • Higher-flow backing. ASTM F2898 drainage at 80+ inches per hour. Urine moves through the turf instantly instead of pooling under a multi-dog household.
  • Reinforced fiber. Pet fiber is engineered to spring back after repeated compression and shear — zoomies, sliding stops, rough-housing. Regular landscape turf wears a track into the grass within a season.

Zeolite + silver antimicrobial infill

Infill is where odor control actually lives. Silica sand — the default on non-pet installs — holds ammonia. That's the kennel smell you've heard about. Our pet installs use a zeolite and silver-antimicrobial blend: zeolite traps ammonia molecules on contact; the silver coating kills the bacteria that would otherwise grow on wet infill. Combined with a weekly two-minute hose rinse, we've had customers with four dogs go five-plus years without odor issues.

Drainage engineered for multi-dog households

Pet installs use a deeper base than residential: 4-inch excavation, 4-inch decomposed granite sub-base compacted to 95% Standard Proctor density in two lifts, laser-graded to a 1.5-2% slope toward a daylighting exit or French drain. On runs where dogs pick the same spot every time (fence corners, favored trees, gate areas), we run a perforated drain pipe beneath the spot. Drainage is engineered, not hoped for.
